You can search for materials without using a search engine or directory. The location of these materials is called "The Invisible Web". The invisible Web sounds nefarious, but you may have stumbled upon it without knowing it. "Invisible" Web pages are often pages within database sites. A gateway is a network point that acts as an entrance
to another network. On the Internet, a node or stopping point can be
either a gateway node or a host (end-point) node. Both the computers of
Internet users and the computers that serve pages to users are host nodes.

Search for Portable Document Files on the web using these tools: Google then choose the file format ".pdf" Adobe search - A specialized search engine, finding resources in PDF format which regular search engines do not usually find. PDF is a visual presentation of files, resembling a printed page rather than a web page.
Image searches include videos, pictures, and sound files. Using a search engine's advanced search tool and selecting image, (google, altavista, etc.), you can search for file names of pictures that may direct you to exactly what you are looking for. Finding images about your topic will help you find materials that you didn't know existed.
